Brilliant Butterflies ProjectLondon Borough of Bromley is progressing a Brilliant Butterflies Project on Green Street Green adjacent to The Salt Road A chalk dressed butterfly bank has been constructed to encourage and support a range of butterfly species and has been planted with suitable plants.
Brilliant Butterflies is a partnership between London Wildlife Trust, the Natural History Museum and Butterfly Conservation, funded by a Dream Fund Award, thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. Working with the Friends of Warren Road, idverde (Bromley Council’s parks and open spaces contractor) volunteers help maintain the site and to carry out regular butterfly surveys. This is a worthwhile project for protecting the environment and if you can spare some time to help it would be much appreciated. Training in butterfly and plant recognition will be provided by idverde. Maintenance of the site will be led by an idverde ranger. If you would like to get involved, please contact Brian Willson, Secretary, Friends of Warren Road, who can tell you more about the project. Email [email protected] or telephone him on 01689 857237 Update October 2021 The wild flowers continue to develop and cover the site. The poppies look very colourful at present. However it will probably next year before the site fully develops and attracts the butterflies. Update May 2022 The wild flower plants are now growing well and hopefully we will see some butterflies soon |
